BRONTË: THE WORLD WITHOUT
Theatre

Playwright
Length: 2 hours, 15 minutes
Roles: 3 women
A modern and moving exploration of the lives of the three legendary Brontë sisters - Charlotte, Emily, and Anne. The sisters were writers in the 1840s whose novels have become classics in the English literary canon. The play follows the period in their life where they became literary successes. A family drama that explores the nature of ambition, fame, failure, and what it means to want something greater from your life.
Brontë: The World Without premiered at the Stratford Festival in 2018 – Canada’s largest and most prestigious theatre company – and has been published by Playwrights Canada Press.
"Jordi Mand is a gifted writer. In Brontë: The World Without she not only creates the isolated, confined world in which the Brontë sisters lived and wrote, she also illuminates the mysterious, solitary world of the writer, the obsessive need to create with words. We read the works of the Brontë sisters with new insight and understanding of what it took to create those books because of Jordi Mand's play.”
