CAUGHT
Theatre

Playwright
Length: 1 hour and 20 minutes
Roles: 1 woman, 2 men
A teenager is held in a department store security holding room by the female security guard who caught him shoplifting. As he tries to lure her into dropping the charges, they find themselves unexpectedly intertwined. When the police officer arrives to process the case, the tables are turned and keep on spinning. Caught explores questions around entitlement, blame, consequence, and justice. It focuses on human interactions and the various ways we hurt both one another and ourselves. Caught, produced by Theatre Passe Muraille in 2016, explored the concepts of morality and interpersonal justice. With sharp dialogue and an acute grasp of its contemporary thematic significance, Caught anticipated the intersection of privilege, power, and abuse that has only become more relevant since its staging.
“Mand likes to explore questions of moral responsibility, consequences of that moral obligation and responsibility breached, and does so with great skill.”
